create. eat. do.

Welcome!  I’m so glad we found each other.  This blog is a journey for me and I hope you will come along for the ride.  My mission with Kreateedoo is to never stop learning, to always try to be better, and to do better.

I’m curious about almost everything.  I love to learn new things and explore new ideas.  Each month I will pick a topic that I’m interested in, find out what I can about it, then share what I learn with you.  I believe that it is the connections we make in life between what we see, think and feel, and what we do and make with our hands that make meaningful memories that last our whole life.  For that reason, with each month’s topic I will design a craft project for something useful and hopefully beautiful that we can make together, as well as a plant-based recipe that we can share. I hope that every time you use the things we create or make the recipes we will explore, you will once again connect with what we learned together.  Perhaps most important, each month I will share with you real steps we can both take to try and make our own little corners of the world a better place.

About Me

I’m Marin Wonder, a not-quite-over-the-hill-but-can-see-the-top-of-the-hill fan of the quieter side of life.  I’ve recently been contemplating how I want to spend what I hope to be the best years of my life. A book I read recently about how to have a “cool life” encouraged me to spend some time thinking about what a cool life means to me.  I realized that three of my biggest passions in life are activism, creativity, and plant-based eating. I started this blog to combine those passions and to hopefully make the world a better place while doing so.

My Inspirations

My kids are a big part of this adventure.  My two adult children are the most important influences on me at this point in my life and they have taught me so much the past few years.  They’ve taught me that life is too short to spend all your time and energy in the rat race. They’ve shown me the value of pursuing our passions in life and that’s it’s never too late to start.  My kids both live each day finding simple joys in the natural world, in eating a healthy, plant-based diet, and caring for those we love — both the people and the fur babies in our lives.

And while my kids and I all share a love of creativity, we all three express that love in different ways.  My daughter has the amazing talent of creating a beautiful home and personal style that is magazine-cover worthy – mostly from things that others have discarded.  Living in Hawaii, my son and his girlfriend specialize in local plants, incorporating beautiful driftwood sculptures that they’ve picked up from their daily beach-cleaning hike.

My Work

I mostly work in textile arts, especially wool.  Unloved wool sweaters, trousers, and skirts call out to me, so I take them home and love them by transforming them into new, useful things.  My favorite things to do are wool applique, needle felting,  punch needle, hooking rugs, and knitting and crocheting.  I love to stitch and embroider by hand as well.  But I’m pretty much game to try any craft at least once.  I can’t wait to share ideas and patterns with you in the hopes that we can make useful things together.

I’m glad you’re here and I hope you come back often.  Together, I hope we can Create. Eat. Do.
